Pre-Removal Risk Assessment
Pre-removal risk assessment – Refugee claims in Canada
Certain applicants that are being removed from Canada may be eligible to apply for Pre-removal risk assessment if still at risk of persecution or danger after removal.
The Canadian Border Service Agency will be able to notify you if you are eligible for a PPRA before you are removed from Canada.
Normally there is a 12 months wait time after your negative decision before you may apply for PRRA
- However, depending on your country situation this may not apply to some people of certain countries.
This applies to applications that were rejected, abandoned or withdrawn.
For those who are not able to become a Permanent Resident of Canada they may be eligible to apply for Humanitarian and Compassionate Grounds.
You are ineligible if:
• You already have Refugee protection
• You are convention refugee in another country
• Your refugee claim was ineligible due to Safe Third Country Agreement
• Convicted of a crime
Eligible applicants will be given the applications by the CBSA officer
Time to submit application:
• 15 days, in person
• 22 days, in mail
A few factors are considered when deciding an application under PRRA:
• Danger of torture
• Risk to life and unusual treatment
• Risk of Persecution
