Who can sponsor and who can be sponsored ?
Spouse/Partner, Child / Relative, Parent/Grandparents
Basic Eligibility of sponsoring
• 18 years of age
• Canadian Citizen or a Permanent Resident of Canada
• Not on any social assistance other than disability
• Be able to provide for basic needs
• Be responsible for the period of undertaking
Spousal Sponsorship
• Legally Married
• 18 years of age
• Processing time: Approximately 12 months
• There is no income requirement for sponsoring your child or spouse/partner. However, this does not apply to other cases.
Note: Sponsored Spouses or partners cannot sponsor another individual for a period of 5 years. Spousal sponsorship undertaking - 3 years
Common-Law partner Sponsorship
• 18 years of age
• Living together for a continuous of 12 months.
• Proof will be required
Conjugal Partner Sponsorship
• 18 years of age
• In a relationship for a year
• Lives abroad (Outside of Canada)
• Can’t live with you due to certain immigration reasons (Contact our firm for more detail)
• Proof will be required
Dependent children
• Processing time: Varies by country
• Under 22 years old ( Age may change) AND
• Marital Status: Single
22 years or older may qualify as a dependent if:
• Unable to financially support themselves due to disability AND
• Are dependent on their parents financially before the age of 22
Sponsor your adopted child or an orphaned family member
Family member/Relative sponsorship (Brother/sister/Nephew/Niece or grandchild)
• Related by blood/Adoption
• Orphaned (No parents)
• Under 18 years of age
• Marital status-Single
Other Relatives of any age (Eligibility of the person who wants to sponsor)
• Marital Status-Single
• Have no living relative
• Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
Note: Inadmissible individuals cannot be sponsored *Contact our firm for further details in regards to inadmissibility
Sponsoring parents/Grandparents
Processing time: 20-24 months
• Interest to sponsor form opens up beginning of January of every year
• If you are invited, you will be eligible to complete the application for your parents/grandparents sponsorship for them to become a Permanent Resident of Canada,
• Must support them financially for a duration of 20 years
• Make sure social assistance from the government is not needed (For further information please contact us)
